You know you’re a socialist when George Soros says you are going to far:
Billionaire financier George Soros said on Wednesday U.S. President Barack Obama’s plan to impose a tax on large banks was premature and his wider proposals to rein in banks’ activities may not go far enough.
Even the Washington Post, that bastion of conservatism, agrees that the Obama administration was foolish in reading the underwear bomber his rights before completely interrogating him.
UMAR FAROUK Abdulmutallab was nabbed in Detroit on board Northwest Flight 253 after trying unsuccessfully to ignite explosives sewn into his underwear. The Obama administration had three options: It could charge him in federal court. It could detain him as an enemy belligerent. Or it could hold him for prolonged questioning and later indict him, ensuring that nothing Mr. Abdulmutallab said during questioning was used against him in court.
It is now clear that the administration did not give serious thought to anything but Door No. 1. This was myopic, irresponsible and potentially dangerous.
Whether to charge terrorism suspects or hold and interrogate them is a judgment call. We originally supported the administration’s decision in the Abdulmutallab case, assuming that it had been made after due consideration. But the decision to try Mr. Abdulmutallab turns out to have resulted not from a deliberative process but as a knee-jerk default to a crime-and-punishment model.
I mean I understand why they initially sided with the Obama administration’s choice, Obama is never wrong, AND he was being criticized by Dick Cheney, so that made Obama even more right in his decision!
At lease one person at the Post had it right all along:
This is nuts. Even if you wanted ultimately to try him as an ordinary criminal, he could have been detained in military custody — and thus subject to military interrogation — without prejudicing his ultimate disposition. After all, every Guantanamo detainee was first treated as an enemy combatant and presumably interrogated. But some (most notoriously Khalid Sheik Mohammed) are going to civilian trial. That determination can be made later.
OK I give Obama a little credit, he’s smart enough to realize that it would be political suicide to use trickery to get healthcare passed:
President Obama warned Democrats in Congress today not to “jam” a health care reform bill through now that they’ve lost their commanding majority in the Senate, and said they must wait for newly elected Massachusetts Republican Scott Brown to be sworn into office.
Tuesday’s Senate special election in Massachusetts could be a huge turning point in the politics of our country at this time.
If Brown wins the seat, the same seat that has been held by a Kennedy since 1958 (with the exception of a 2 year period when JFK was elected president) that would be a political shake up for the ages. Massachusetts, not exactly Texas when it comes to a conservative bastion, electing a conservative Republican? How in the world would the Dems spin that? How can you spin that? A Brown win Tuesday will mean only one thing….the American people, even in Democratic controlled states DO NOT WANT THIS HEALTHCARE PLAN! Not just that, but the American people are tired of the hubris of Nancy, Barack & Harry, the unholy trio who want to completely take over the entire US economy.
I sure hope the people of Massachusetts are as smart as the polls suggest!
So I wonder when the debate on health care is gonna be televised like President BO claimed would happen? I’d love to see what te inside of that witch Nancy Pelosi’s witches den looks like.
So it’s been a long time since I last posted. I go through moods….I’ll post more!!
