Yes healthcare is broken, but the fix is NOT government run healthcare.
My mother is currently hospitalized. She has lymphoma, Lupus and another autoimmune disease as well. She is currently being treated for some unknown lung infection. At this time her doctors are not exactly sure what the infection is. She was admitted Tuesday night, after being in the hospital for less than 48 hours, some administrator/social worker was telling her that they might have to release her because she wasn’t really actively being treated for anything; her medication is just in pill form & they could send her home with oxygen. Each one of her doctors (4 all together) believe she should remain in the hospital. Luckily the doctors decided to check on several other health issues she has and have scheduled a number of tests which should manage to stave off her discharge at least until next week.
President Obama and Democratic leaders in Congress like to rant about the evil insurance company executives, yet it isn’t some “evil” (Nancy Pelosi’s word) or “profit gouging” insurance company, it’s the Federal Government. My mother is 75 years old and on Medicare, so the same government that want’s to kick her out of the hospital wants to take over the entire healthcare system in this country, preposterous! In order for the doctors to be able to treat her unknown, undiagnosed illness, they had to run tests that weren’t even related to her lung condition. The moronic policies of Medicare actually drive up the cost because doctors are forced to order tests just to keep a patient in the hospital.
A very nice opinion piece by Jeff Jacoby points out what a fraud Al Gore is. Here’s an excerpt:
By “global-warming pollution,’’ Gore means carbon dioxide (CO2), which is a “pollutant’’ in roughly the way oxygen and water are pollutants: Human existence would be impossible without them. CO2 is essential to photosynthesis, the process that sustains plant life and generates the oxygen that human beings and animals inhale. Far from polluting the world, carbon dioxide enriches it. Higher levels of CO2 are associated with larger crop yields, increased forest growth, and longer growing seasons – in short, with a greener planet.
Of course carbon dioxide also contributes to the greenhouse effect that keeps the earth warm. But the vast majority of atmospheric CO2 occurs naturally, and it is far from clear that the carbon dioxide contributed by human industry has a significant impact on the world’s climate.
So in other words, Al wants us to all stop breathing.
He also points out that:
His 1,900-word essay made no mention of his financial interest in promoting such measures – Gore has invested heavily in carbon-offset markets, electric vehicles, and other ventures that would profit handsomely from legislation curbing the use of fossil fuels, and is reportedly poised to become the world’s first “carbon billionaire.’’
Here’s what the articele from the Telegraph had to say about Al’s investment:
Last year Mr Gore’s venture capital firm loaned a small California firm $75m to develop energy-saving technology.
The company, Silver Spring Networks, produces hardware and software to make the electricity grid more efficient.
The move means that venture capital company Kleiner Perkins and its partners, including Mr Gore, could recoup their investment many times over in coming years. The deal appeared to pay off in a big way last week, when the Energy Department announced $3.4 billion in smart grid grants, the New York Times reports. Of the total, more than $560 million went to utilities with which Silver Spring has contracts.
Few people have been as vocal about the urgency of global warming and the need to reinvent the way the world produces and consumes energy as Mr Gore. And few have put as much money behind their advocacy and are as well positioned to profit from this green transformation, if and when it comes.
Critics, mostly on the political right and among global warming sceptics, say Mr. Gore is poised to become the world’s first “carbon billionaire,” profiteering from government policies he supports that would direct billions of dollars to the business ventures he has invested in.
Shocking, that the crazy “Global Warming” bill in California will cause job losses!
California is likely to see modest job losses in the near term from its aggressive climate change policy due to higher energy costs and other factors, the state’s independent Legislative Analyst’s Office said. Skip related content
The budget watchdog was responding to a request by Republican state Senator Dave Cogdill to study the effects of California’s 2006 climate change law, which mandates changes to cut greenhouse gas emissions to 1990 levels by 2020.
California’s environmental vanguard approach is being hotly debated in the state ahead of a November gubernatorial race and in the midst of an economic downturn that has pushed unemployment to recent records. Many other states and the federal government are watching closely.
“We believe that the aggregate net jobs impact in the near term is likely to be negative,” said the report, dated March 4. “Reasons for this include the various economic dislocations, behavioral adjustments, investment requirements, and certain other factors,” it said.
The total effects on the economy near- and long-term are likely to be modest, since energy costs are a relatively small share of expenses for most people living and doing business in California, it said.
The state agency responsible for implementing the law is working on a revised economic analysis after a first draft met widespread criticism. That revision is expected this month. The Legislative Analyst’s Office based its comments on the original version.
I love that the best picture/director was for the Hurt Locker, a movie about the war in Iraq that doesn’t focus on the politics or paint our troops in a bad light like so many films do. It takes the politics out of it & focuses on what the focus of war movies should be, the brave men & women who keep us safe.
I also am really happy that Sandra Bullock won for the Blind Side, a great movie, with a great message. An she plays a God fearing, NRA member, southern woman, and they portray her as a great woman, not a nut as Hollywood loves to do.
YEAH for the Academy! (Even though the Babs & Sean Penn were presenters YUCK!)
There’s an interesting issue is the Dem’s don’t really need reconciliation if they have the votes in the House. The Senate bill was passed before, the House could just vote on it anytime, one problem, THEY DON’T HAVE THE VOTES!
Look at his OWN words!!!! Dems Should Not Pass Healthcare With a 50-Plus-1 Strategy.
So he didn’t get his way, now it’s time to take his toys & bring out the Nukes!
Charlie Rangel on verge of losing gavel
Rangel suffered a significant blow Tuesday afternoon when Rep. Artur Davis – a member of both the Ways and Means Committee and the Congressional Black Caucus who’s running for governor back home in Alabama – issued a statement in which he said the chairman “should do the right thing and step aside.”
Another Democratic member told POLITICO Tuesday night: “I think Charlie should do the right thing and step down. We expected that out of Tom DeLay. He should do the honorable thing … There’s no double standard. “
A third, Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick (D-Ariz.), said Rangel “ needs to resign” from his chairmanship
For a few days, the New York Democrat’s grip on power seemed steady even after the House ethics committee found him in violation of House gift rules last week. Speaker and Rangel ally Nancy Pelosi (DCal.) vowed to wait to see if ethics acts on more of the allegations that have been lodged against him.
As he should!
